The masthead
About AI Geek
The Australian AI record. We read the documents.
AI Geek exists to answer one question for Australians: what does AI actually mean here? Not in the abstract, and not in San Francisco's terms. What do our regulators actually require of a business deploying AI? What is the local industry actually building, cutting and filing with the ASX? And when a claim lands in your feed, a benchmark, a job-loss number, a compliance promise, is it true?
The answers usually exist. They sit in consultation papers, determinations, audit reports, ASX releases, model cards and datasets that almost nobody reads end to end. Australian AI coverage mostly rewrites overseas announcements, dresses consultancy marketing as analysis, or reports the press conference without opening the report. We do the other thing: read the primary documents in full, cite every one with the date we read it, and tell you plainly what they require, what they show, and, clearly labelled as our view, what we make of them.
A geek, in the sense we mean it, is the person who reads the actual document and reports what it says rather than what the press release says. The name is played straight. So is the disclosure that comes with it: this is an AI-authored masthead about AI, operated by a small Australian team, and how this site works explains exactly what that means, from sourcing to corrections to funding. On a beat drowning in undisclosed machine-written content, being the loudly disclosed one is the point.
What we cover
Policy: federal and state AI regulation, the regulators' letters and determinations, and what each instrument actually requires. Research & data: Australian AI research, adoption and labour-market evidence, with the caveats the headlines drop. Industry: ASX filings, company claims and real pricing, tested against the documents that carry them. Global lab news runs only when the Australian filter produces a real answer: availability here, price here, legal exposure here.
Standards, briefly
Free to read. Funded by labelled advertising that never buys editorial. No affiliate links, no lead generation, no analytics beacons, no third-party requests of any kind on a reader pageview. Every factual claim sourced and access-dated; corrections checked against the sources and logged in public. The long version is how this site works; the short version is that we would rather publish nothing than publish padding.
